Comprehensive Resources

  • Quote:
You can start with biblegateway.com which provides the Bible online for free in many translations, including notations. When you see a bible verse such as John 3:16 linked on this forum, it is being linked automatically to this website. You can change the version this forum links to in your Profile page.

Dear Ketlin, you can find a wealth of good info and downloads at: http://www.e-sword.net/ Probably not so much on the info as such, but many free downloads (they might be glad to receive donations). A fully interactive operating system is provided, to which you can add dozens of bible versions, commentaries, dictionaries, maps etc. Well worth a look.

Anyway...I find this site useful for lots of things, but especially the online Interlinear Greek and Hebrew

also for • Parallel Bible • Commentaries • Concordances • Dictionaries • Encyclopedias

An excellent resource for those who have the means is Logos software using the Libronix platform. With the Scholar's Edition, you get several popular Bible versions, including the NIV, NKJV, NRSV, Message, and others. You also get an interlinear Greek translation with morphology (parsing/grammatical information). In addition to all the Bible versions, you get excellent Greek and Hebrew resources as well, all of which are accessible with only a few clicks. Like resources can be linked, so you can go to and look at, for example, the definition of a Greek or Hebrew word several dictionaries at once, or have several Bible versions open at once and look at the same passage in all versions with one click. Bible commentaries can be linked to a Bible, so as you read through the Bible passage, the commentary keeps up. Resources range from lay to scholarly, so don't think you need an advanced degree to use Logos (although it wouldn't hurt to take Morris Proctor's Logos Training Seminar).

The Scholar's edition retails for about $500, and the Scholar's silver edition retails for about $1000. Less expensive collections also can be purchased. But the savvy shopper can usually find a discounted price. If you have a Bible college nearby, check with their bookstore and see about a discount. The bookstore at my school usually offers the Scholar's edition for 1/2 price in the fall.

    Logos Web site: www.logos.com
    Morris Proctor Seminars: www.mpseminars.com

Greek & Hebrew resources

Quote:
Title: Word Study Greek-English New Testament with complete concordance
Author: Paul R. McReynolds
ISBN: 0-8423-8290-9

The complete text of the Greek New Testament, USB 3rd edition, with a unique interlinear translation and the NRSV. Each Greek word is keyed to the numbering system from Strong's Exaustive Concordance and other reference works.

An excellent resource for those who want to learn more about Greek without all of the technical jargon is Greek for Preachers by Webb and Kysar, published by Chalice Press (a Disciples of Christ publishing house in St. Louis). It's not perfect, but you should get it if you want to use Greek tools with knowledge. (I don't think it honors God when someone who doesn't understand the Greek language tries to use Greek to impress or influence another.)

Greek for Preachers is written as a companion to an interlinear text. If you need a good interlinear, Zondervan offers a wide variety of Bible versions in interlinear format. They also have a "reverse interlinear" by Mounce, but this rearranges the Greek text to follow the NIV word order. I'm not too keen on this, though, because Greek word order can influence meaning.

My NT Greek resources page:

It needs some updating - I haven't worked on it for awhile, and some of the links may need correcting, and I also may have some other resources I'd put there - but it gives some information you might find useful. Most of them are for persons who have had a year of NT Greek, but there are some resources for those with no knowledge of Greek, and a few items for those who want an easy introduction to Greek that will enable them to use some of these resources.

"Historical and excavational support" For this topic, a couple of excellent sites to begin at (with tons of good links) would be: http://www.s8int.com/page13.html and http://www.christiangeology.com/ The material on each site is challenging and interesting to say the least, but definately worth a look, if only for the links, if not for the interesting articles. Love to hear others feedback on this. (hope this is what you might be referring to as a topic).

Thanks very much, that is exactly the type of thing I am looking for. Now I'm just looking for a way to explain those last two links concisely. LOL!
